Wayuu Hat | Mckenna | Handmade

Each Wayuu hat is handmade by the traditional Wayuu artisans, woven using 100% Iraka palm straw, and takes approximately 8 hours to weave.

Wayuu is an American Indian ethnic group of the Guajira Peninsula in northern Colombia and northwest Venezuela. One of the most important aspects of Wayuu culture is the art of weaving, an ancient practice that is passed down from generation to generation. To the Wayuu weaving is a symbol of intelligence, creativity and wisdom. Patterns and symbols on hats represent the spiritual wisdom of the ancestors.

How to Wear: our hats can be worn with the rim down or you can flip the back of the brim up as shown in the product image. Each Hat is a standard 21cm in the head opening but can be made smaller or larger with a weave that is designed to contract or stretch to fit.

Travel Tips: these hats are a holiday necessity… place the hat upside down in your luggage and ensure the crown is stuffed with clothes - bon voyage!
